The iPhone Dev Team is actually a team of influential hackers which is active among the iPhone OS community and they are the ones responsible for widely used unlocking applications and jailbreaking for Apple’s iPod touch gadgets and iPhones. Such applications enable a user of iPhone to use the phone more than what is permitted for users. According to reports in January 2009 the iPhone Dev Team consists of the following members – Bugout, bgm, bushing, MuscleNerd, c1de0x, chris, penisbird, ghost_000, iZsh, gray, planetbeing, Installer, Turbo, wizdaz, Conficker_C, Zf, roxfan, gay, pytey, w___, and pumpkin. These members contribute to the efforts of the DEV Team which mainly communicated through Hackint0sh IRC server and it is also guessed that developer poorland too is involved in the maintenance and running of QuickPwn on the Windows Platform.

Tools that are used to Jialbreak the gadgets of Apple like iPod Touch 2G, iPhone, iPod Touch 1G and iPhone 3G are QuickPWN and Pwnage Tool. There is another tool that the hackers’ community of iPhone Dev Team uses to unlock the iPhone 3G and it is called the Yellowsn0w from the software firmware 2.2. The 2.2.1 has been recently released in January 2009 and this is rightly used to upgrade the gadget without unlocking the features. The upgrade is done through custom firmware only and it prevents the base band updates.

To jailbreak the iPod 2G there is another tool called the RedSn0w Lite. This has been released by both semi and untethered versions. Like this there are numerous jailbreak and unlocks tools are awaiting to be released for the iPhone Dev Team. One such awaited tool is the QuickFreedom.
