As a journalist, you know you’re in trouble when another journalist is writing an article about you and quoting you in it. If you can’t write your own story on your own story, not a good sign. This is the case with Chris Buffa, who recently reviewed MGS4 and gave it a 8/10. Not a bad score right? However, Buffa comments on several things in the game that are just not what he wanted, rather than what they should be as an Metal Gear game. In any case, Buffa’s “review” (and I use the term lightly) sparked internet fury and this well written eloquent and right on the money letter from Siraris letting Mr. Buffa know that he doesn’t get Metal Gear. Obviously Mr. Buffa doesn’t have a very good PR agent because he responded and made himself, in my opinion look even worse.
Why does it make him look worse? Buffa claims that he thinks some reviewers gave the game a free pass with 9′s and 10s due to Kojima. he calls other authors fanboys of the series in giving the game higher scores and that others “fall in line” afterwards. Funny, GTA IV has very high review scores amidst plenty of complaints and some even saying that the series took steps backwards. Of course that wouldn’t have anything to do with “fanboys” (cause obviously GTA has no fanboys) or others falling in line right? Mr. Buffa even goes on to say that he was going to knock the game for glass breaking physics and bad animations. Seriously? You’re going to complain about how glass looks? and that warrents an 8/10?
My suggestion to Mr. Buffa? Pack up your desk and leave the game review business, or rather don’t, it’s not like anyone is going to take you and possibly any publication you work for seriously again.
Way to go sir, way to go. Read the story written on his response after the link.
