If you’ve been around video games for just about any length of time, you’ve heard the name Jack Thompson. Jack Thompson is a lawyer that really hates Grand Theft Auto. Hates it. Not just Grand Theft Auto mind you, Jack Thompson really hates violent video games as a whole. He (and many others) feel that playing violent games will make you go nuts and start shooting people. For that reason, Jack has made it his personal crusade to take down any who dare to produce such violence. However, it appears that this time he is the target and interestingly enough, he doesn’t like the attention. Mr. Thompson recently walked out of a hearing negotiating his status as a lawyer and by doing so, lost the chance to defend himself (and also made himself look like a total assbag in my opinion) resulting in an enhanced disbarment.  So there you have it, call it what you will, my thought is that karma can be a real pain in the ass sometimes.  Good luck on your next crusade Mr. Thompson.

And for the record, science hasn’t proven that video games cause violence.  What science has shown, is that violent people may be drawn to more violent games or that violent games draw violent players.  Science has also shown that there may be effects from playing violent games or perhaps that individual traits are just being drawn out by games.  There is also this factor that many people for some reason choose to ignore.  I like to all this factor “The Parents”.  If this factor weren’t letting their children be raised by tv and video games, my guess is that there wouldn’t be so many “Mortal Kombat” deaths or siblings beating each other to the death while pretending to be power rangers.  Or perhaps these parents are more crazy than any of us think…
