‘Where there is a will there’s a way’… I think everybody has heard this motivational quote, but not many of us have put this evidently across with our actions, turning our ever fateful aspiration to pave its way through and shape up into an occurrence of great accomplishment.
Well, why am I emphasizing this phrase in particular? Not just because it’s my favorite quote but in order to pass you a little story of a renowned icon which really turned these golden words subsist evidently in real terms…
It was 2006, Apple Inc. headquarters, a late morning time, the boardroom was ducted with apprehensions and fury when Apple CEO Steve Job’s called about a dozen of the chief strategists for an imperative session.
The reason for this alarming meeting was the firm being on the verge of launching their projected masterpiece iPhone in about no time and every term of technological compliance that was harnessed and practiced till the time just frittered away because of the technical challenges they faced to behave complacent with the latest technical propositions.
First words that Job’s uttered to his core development team was ‘We don’t have a product yet’.
Besides various shortfalls and loopholes the most immediate reason was the demo for the prototype which went considerably futile and the list of the problems seemed endless. It was buggy, and just failed to function to the utter detest of an ‘iPhone’ standard and to the raising aggravation of Jobs who had tasked about 200 of Apple’s top engineers with creation of the device which was to be the centerpiece of Apple’s annual Macworld convention, set to take place in just a few months.
Things went too hot and the resentment was the result of third abortive demo for the iPhone, which was a big blow and expectedly all the worries embodied into big drama which was far more terrifying than Job’s regular trademark tantrums.
For a matter of fact the consequences were going to be serious for the firm, if the iPhone wasn’t ready in time, Macworld would be a failure, Jobs’ critics would seize upon, and Apple’s stock price could suffer badly.
The meeting was considering all these factors in order to put the word across which was more than a clear instruction to meet the deadlines most productively.
For those working on the iPhone, the next three months would be the most stressful and crucial of their careers. Screaming matches broke out routinely in the hallways. The picture was ever lumbering with engineers, frazzled from all-night coding sessions, quit, only to rejoin days later after catching up on their sleep.
Things were rescheduled and meticulously framed into identifiable factors for the left out attributes. System was dedicatedly followed to grip the analytics into corresponding output.
Time flew and after three months with the grace of all that hard work and strong will, just few weeks before Macworld Jobs managed to have a prototype to show to the suits at AT&T.
Following that, in mid-December 2006, Jobs met wireless boss Stan Sigman at a suite in the Four Seasons hotel in Las Vegas. He showed off the iPhone’s brilliant screen, its powerful support of Web browser, and its engaging user interface. Sigman, a taciturn went uncharacteristically effusive, calling the iPhone “the best device I have ever seen.”
Six months hence, the day of glorified success came and most deservingly Apple iPhone went on sale on June 29, 2007. The device went apparently a great success and snapped up Smart Phone market with steeps and about 3 million units were sold by the end of 2007, making it the fastest- selling SmartPhone device ever and the rest is the history.
Where there’s a will there’s a way’ and iPhone story encapsulates the essence of this idea convincingly, isn’t it?
Steve and his team had the rigor to shape their efforts and frame their dream of having this masterpiece and they succeeded in reaping it with their defying will.
To the most endearing part of it iPhone put an end to the idea where hand held devices were treated merely as the disposable decoy, massively subsidized to trap subscribers and lock them into using the carriers’ proprietary services.
The most revolutionary turnthat it brought in the communication dynamics says that it has compelled carriers to learn that the right phone, even a pricey one, can win customers and bring in revenue, without being depending upon their projected ‘power outlets’.
This was the ever golden story of a ‘techno thingy’, which is by now, invariably a part of ‘techno delights’ of the people using it throughout the world. With the significant onset of iPhone application development as the global phenomena and its compliance with feature upturns it has touched greater heights. The phenomenal iPhone is on its way to glory and growing immensely with the ever dwelling technological compliance and wrangling its way against all odds to culminate the ever stoic will to lead the world of smart telephony.
