Have you been wanting to jailbreak your iPhone 4, but accidentally updated the phone to the iOS 4.1? Have you just been wanting to use the facetime feature over the 3G network, rather than being within wifi range? Have you been wanting to tether your device without paying an extraordinary amount to do so? If the previous question set applies to you, this article will explain an easy step by step approach for jailbreaking an iPhone with the 4.1 iOS installed.
Step 1: The first step of this process involved downloading the newest version (4.1.1 of Limera1n). Once you have obtained a copy of Limera1n, continue to follow step 2.
Step 2: Open the Limera1n.exe file in windows or mac and connect your device to the computer with your USB cable connector.
Step 3: Click the “Make it ra1n” button that has popped up in the program window
Step 4: The device will now enter into a recovery mode (you should see a screen that is unfamiliar to you on the iPhone which is the iTunes icon with the plug underneath it)
Step 5: Hold down the power (button at the top of the iPhone) and home (circular button at the bottom of the phone) at the same time for 10 seconds
Step 6: Release the power button while continuing to hold the home button (this will put the device in DFU mode)
Step 7: Once the iPhone boots back up in DFU mode, allow limera1n to inject its bootrom exploit into the phone’s firmware.
Step 8: A confirmation window will pop up on your mac or PC, informing you that you have successfully jailbroken your device and it is ready to use.
Step 9: In order to use facetime over 3G you will have to download facebreak from the cydia app. In order to do this open the Cydia app (this was automatically installed with the jailbreak) and search for facebreak. Click on this install package and direct the program to be installed by clicking the install button at the top left corner. You are now ready to facetime over 3G
Step 10: Follow the final Cydia step above in step 9 except for tethering search for teh MyWi install package. Install it as above and enjoy, you are done!
