The Flipboard Ipad app is a whole new way of consuming content from the web.
Started by Mike McCue earlier this year, the Flipboard app takes your Twitter and Facebook accounts and turns them into a personalized magazine, a magazine custom made just for you, including content such as text, video and images that you are already interested in. It is, essentially, a personalized social media magazine.
POLL:
Is Flipboard the future of magazines?
Test and keep an iPad or Kindle for your opinion
You can import Twitter lists and add other peoples’ or other websites Twitter account to create a magazine geared entirely to your interests. As an example, if you’re interested in web design you could create a great looking magazine from a popular web design site’s Twitter account and every link in each tweet will be turned into a page in your magazine.
You may already use RSS feed readers such as Google Reader or NewsGator and they have their place, but when you take information from different sources and put them into a form whereby you can use hand gestures to turn your virtual pages and flick through your content however you please, your reading experience is taken to a whole new level.
You can turn your ipad through 90 degrees from portrait to landscape (vertical to horizontal) and vice versa and everything on your screen will reconfigure accordingly, so you can view photos shared with you on Facebook in a beautiful and immersive way as well as videos and textual pages.
The Flipboard Ipad app has only recently launched and has already achieved great acclaim from its initial user base which includes a lot of internet experts. Its popularity from launch is already large, but it’s only in its infancy and additional features are planned to make it all the more useful and interactive.
The future of magazines and how we consume content that interests us has become a reality in the form of the Flipboard Ipad app, and the best part is that it’s free.
