Tetris has been around in one form or another for decades. Originally developed by Alexey Pajitnov in the 1980s, Tetris has been ported onto almost every gaming system to arrive on the market. With the advent of the iPhone, it was only a matter of time before this classic computer game was available on the latest tech gadget.
Electronic Arts (EA) has brought Tetris to the iPhone at a cost of less than . It’s the perfect accessory for your iPhone for those of you who can’t seem to be without a game of Tetris. For those of you who haven’t played video games for the past 2 decades, Tetris is a video game with shifting geometric shapes that disappear off the screen when you line them up to complete a horizontal line. The game ends when the screen fills up with shapes you were unable to clear.
EA’s version has two play modes: “Marathon” and “Magic”. The Magic play mode offers variations on the standard type of Tetris play. You can opt for a shorter play mode if you don’t have much time and save a game to finish later. There are also specialized features such as minimizing a shape into a single square, a useful feature when you have one odd square to fill. The Marathon play mode is the type of Tetris play that fans of the game will find familiar. It has 15 levels of play. Surviving each level leads you to the next level of difficulty. As you proceed through the levels, the speed of play increases as does the difficulty.
The user interface for this version of Tetris is a touch screen, which can make playing a bit more difficult for players used to the more concrete user interfaces of earlier versions. Using your index finger to slide the shapes into place can create the occasional “fat finger” error. If you are used to the touch pad on your laptop or the iPhone touch screen, you will find this as second nature.
All in all, EA has created a good version of the classic game.
