APPLE INC has banned some of the apps as they were found to be pornographic, hurting religious sentiments or against public policies. Given below is the list of apps that were banned by the company for offensive or defamatory content.
BeautyMeter: This app, in which users could upload pics and then rate the other users on their body face or clothes was removed because of nudity. Apple had no way of tracking pornographic content on the uploaded images and controversy kicked in when a 15 year old user uploaded her semi nude pics. The app was immediately banned.
Slasher: This app showed image of a knife, and users could move their phone to see the knife move in stabbing motion. The app was banned because its release timing matched with a series of teen stabbings in the UK. Apple had to quickly remove the Slasher from its app list.
Obama Trampoline: This app had cartoon images of politicians including Obama and a nude pant less Clinton on a trampoline. Moving the phone, users could sway their favourite politician (Hillary Clinton to Sarah Palin) in the air, bounce off and see them fall on their face. The app was removed as it defamed public figures.
iBoobs: The App Store takes a strict stance on ‘adult’ content, and the iBoobs app caught Apple’s eye. The app showed pixelated image of breasts which jiggled when you shook the iPhone. Apple banned the app for ‘objectionable content.’
Pull My Finger: This app allowed users to hear farting sounds as they virtually ‘pulled’ a character’s finger. “Pull My Finger” was banned on grounds that it was of ‘limited utility.’ But three months later, it was accepted and within no time it became one of the most popular apps.
