Considering buying an iPad? Using StumbleUpon? Then it may help your decision to know that StumbleUpon is one of the iPad’s official apps, right there in the iPad App Store. This means that nothing could be easier than installing StumbleUpon on your new device. And the best part is, it’s free.
The iPad itself is brand new, out of the box: It was officially released on April 3, 2010.
But what can you stumble? Does it stack up well against its traditional online counterpart?
Well, you can log in and stumble all your favorite topics and channels. You can do all the things you normally (and hopefully) do: Share stumbles, review pages, rate sites. It’s all synced!
The only drawback is, StumbleUpon for iPad is so new, there’s absolutely nothing searchable for “iPad” in the StumbleUpon Help Section archives yet. StumbleUpon hopes you’ll send in feedback, if you’ve got anything to say. But it’s already had 3 enthusiastic reviews and been customer-rated “Best so far” on Apple’s blog. (The StumbleUpon app is also available for the iPhone – but note that it requires “iPhone OS 3.2 or later”.)
The only restriction is that you must be “at least 17 years old” to download it. No big surprise there. And the only complaint so far is from someone who insists it won’t let you stumble Adult Content pages.
Apple’s sales for the iPad topped 3 million, the first day it opened its doors – and over 1 million apps were immediately downloaded. (No word yet on which percentage comprised the StumbleUpon app.)
There is also a shiny new StumbleUpon for iPad Facebook page, just waiting for feedback (with 1 monthly active user at time of writing, plus 17 fans). That’s how new the iPad and its StumbleUpon app are. (And it’s the perfect time to position yourself up there in the top 20!)
With the iPad itself, there are some complaints about weak Wi Fi signals; and you might want to wait for that Web Cam to be included with the next generation iPad. But the StumbleUpon iPad app itself works competently.
And it gives the rest of us one more good reason to make sure our pages are mobile-compatible!
