SNK’s long-running fighting series makes its debut on the Xbox 360
Thursday 15th April 2010: Leading video games publisher Rising Star Games has today confirmed that SAMURAI SHODOWN SEN, the latest instalment in SNK PLAYMORE’s legendary fighting game series, will arrive tomorrow exclusively on the Microsoft Xbox 360.
“SNK PLAYMORE’s SAMURAI SHODOWN series has incredible heritage and it’s a real honour to be bringing SAMURAI SHODOWN SEN to the Xbox 360,” says Martin Defries, managing director, Rising Star Games. “The series’ transition into high quality 3D brings the game bang up to date and legions of fans will delight in finally being able to indulge in classic 3D fighting moves.”
The original SAMURAI SHODOWN released in arcades in 1993 and amidst a market flooded with ‘me too’ fighting games, it dared to be different. The series has since released more than 10 instalments, gracing a variety of consoles including SEGA Saturn, SEGA MegaDrive, Super Nintendo, NEOGEO Pocket Colour, PlayStation 2 and 3DO, confirming SAMURAI SHODOWN’s long lasting appeal and loyal fan base.
SAMURAI SHODOWN SEN takes place in Japan during the twilight of the turbulent Edo period, and promises to be the most brutal and visceral instalment in the SAMURAI SHODOWN series’ history. It was created for Japanese arcades to commemorate the series’ 15th anniversary and the online challenge aims to replicate the arcade experience via Xbox LIVE.
There are over 20 fighters to choose from, new and old, each with their own string of attacks and special moves. Alongside lead characters Princess Suzu and Takechiyo, a plethora of old favourites from the series have been faithfully incorporated, including Haohmaru, Galford, Hanzo Hattori, Nakoruru and Ukyo Tachibana.
Players can become any one of these fighters and battle against friends via Xbox LIVE to see who can reach the top of a worldwide online ranking system. Series artist Senri Kita has also created stunning game art, which further adds to the experience in SAMURAI SHODOWN SEN.
SAMURAI SHODOWN SEN launches on 16th April for the Xbox 360.
